Prithvi, meaning the Earth our Mother, is the foundation element of the great five in the Indian tradition: Earth, Air Fire, Water & Sky
The five elements of the NGO Prithvi are: Women’s Empowerment, Rural Health , Youth Empowerment, Organic Farming, and Enabling Technology which manifest into the dream of an empowered Indian Rural Heartland.
Prithvi’s goal is comprehensive rural empowerment.
Working in the grass roots, of Maharashtra, India, especially the Ahmednagar District, based out of the village Arangaon, in itself is a monumental challenge !
Prithvi’s strategy is to empower villagers to take responsibility for the evolution of their communities, developing a platform to participate fully in India’s development and the advances of the 21st century, while retaining the values of rural life.
Community empowerment necessitates first the empowerment of rural women, the backbone of the rural communities and simultaneously the most disempowered members of rural society. Prithvi is dedicated to supporting women in their struggle to find their voice.
HIV / AIDS Touches us All! The HIV epidemic is the greatest threat to rural development in the 21st century, and thus HIV awareness and intervention at family and community levels is a primary catalyst to health empowerment.
Land is the most important resource of the rural heartland, and its enhancement and protection is a key focus of Prithvi’s holistic program.
PRITHVI believes that the villager is the stakeholder – and they alone are in the prime position to determine what is best and relevant for their community. Given a platform, encouragement, resources and training, rural communities can and must develop a voice in their own future.
The Fire is lit!
The movement has begun!
Prithvi Power! EarthPower! Empowered!
