The Prithvi Approach to Rural Development

Prithvi promotes conscious change at the individual, family and community level, honouring India’s deep cultural roots and knowledge. Change does not occur in response to narrow and single-focused interventions, and so Prithvi has identified five key gateways to holistic and realistic rural development.

Project Dhanvantari addresses health concerns, including HIV / AIDS, and encourages greater responsibility by family and community in solving the major health challenges that face rural India. This project is dedicated to make stakeholders, Partners in their own health and putting Health and Well being on their priority list to start with.

Project Kshipra empowers women to find their voice and participate actively in the evolution of their community.

Project Bhagirath develops the youth of the community to take their place as the future of India.

Project Vasundhara promotes traditional environment-friendly and organic farming practices and works to develop ecological consciousness.

Project Tara is dedicated to incorporating IT into rural life and encouraging the development of relevant technological solutions at the rural level.

To support the village implementation process, Prithvi is simultaneously developing centralized rural resource facilities. Most resources, such as schools, training facilities, employment opportunities, hospitals and quality medical facilities, etc. are based in urban areas, making access highly difficult for rural people. Prithvi brings the resources to the countryside.

The proposed Prithvi Wellness Center will offer comprehensive health and wellness education, counselling and care, targeting populations most at risk of inadequate care in the rural areas: HIV and epidemic-affected families, women and infants, and farm families.

The Prithvi Institute of Rural Empowerment is already piloting organic farming methodology on its 6-acre farm in Arangaon. Soon it will also offer a comprehensive resource center to showcase global, national and regional activities, programs and information of benefit to rural communities, as well as a comprehensive Training Center to promote skill development in a variety of relevant areas. These resource centers will offer Mobile Outreach Facilities to take their programs directly to participating villages all across Maharashtra.

We are in the process of locating land for establishing this center.
